Suprema Xpass 2 readers work hand-in-hand with BioStar 2 to control door and gate access. Since these readers are network-based and powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet), issues are usually related to power, cabling, or door hardware.
This guide will help you quickly isolate the problem.
If the reader shows no lights at all:
✅ Check PoE Switch Power
Go to the IT/network closet and confirm the PoE switch is powered on.
If the entire switch is down, multiple readers will likely be offline.
✅ If Switch Has Power
The issue could be:
A bad reader
A damaged cable connected to that reader
In this case, schedule a service call.
⚡ Tip: If only one reader is down but others on the same switch are working, it’s most likely a reader or cable issue, not the switch.
If the reader lights up and you hear the access tone (green light + beep) but the door or gate does not unlock:
The reader is functioning correctly.
The issue is with the door hardware itself (e.g., strike, maglock, or gate operator).
This applies to both indoor doors and outdoor vehicle/pedestrian gates.
BioStar 2 only pushes data to the readers when there is an update (e.g., adding/removing a user).
Readers store access permissions locally, so they continue to work even if BioStar 2 or the host computer is offline.
If a user should have access but is being denied, the issue could be:
BioStar 2 did not successfully push the update to the reader.
The reader is powered but not communicating with the network.
Symptom | Likely Cause | Next Step |
---|---|---|
No lights on reader | No power (PoE switch issue) OR bad reader/cable | Check PoE switch → If powered, check cable/reader |
Reader beeps & lights up, but door does not unlock | Door/gate hardware issue (not reader) | Inspect maglock, strike, or gate operator |
User denied access, but they should have access | Reader not receiving update from BioStar | Confirm network connection, re-sync readers |
No lights = power issue
Lights & tone, but no unlock = door hardware issue
Access denied incorrectly = communication/update issue
